Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri and ambassador of Germany in Tirana, Susanne Schutz, signed on Tuesday the EUR 2.032 mln grant agreement on financing the second stage of Tirana university campus dormitory restoration by the principle of energy efficiency. The total grant of German govt. for all the projects within the efficiency module in the students’ dormitories amounts to EUR 15 mln.

The programme includes the energetic audit of the buildings to measure the consumption of energy and pinpoint the measures that need to be taken to reduce energy consumption. It also includes identification of the needs for revamp to maximize the building life cycle.

This investment is all about enhancing technology and saving energy, which means a low energy bill for the state,” Minister Gjiknuri said also stressing the importance of so far cooperation between the Albanian and German governments in the field of energy.

Reduction of overall energy consumption for these buildings is aimed at making sure that the energy performance indicator will be at least 75 kwh / m2 per year and improve the living conditions for students.

Through this investment, thermal insulation will be significantly improved and the heating system will be replaced. In addition, it includes restoration of sanitary facilities and building of study rooms and kitchens, ambassador Schutz said.

The phase of construction is slated to start in 2018 and last from 18 to 24 months. Source: ATA
